Designed and manufactured with risk minimisation and ease of use in mind, KemPress fittings utilises unique features and technologies as part of the KemGuard package in managing and reducing installation risk and providing the highest quality press-fit connection system.

KEMGUARD™ TECHNOLOGY

Designed and manufactured with risk minimisation and ease of use in mind, the KemPress Press-fit Connection System utilises unique features and technologies as part of the KemGuard technology package to manage and reduce installation risk and provide the smartest and highest quality press-fit connection system. KemGuard is the amalgamation of installation smarts, features & technology to provide a total package that reduces your risk and works with you on site to achieve the highest quality installation and protect your reputation.
The KemGuard technology package incorporates just some of the following unique features:

  • Push & Stay Technology
  • Bluetooth equipped KemPress Tools
  • Visual Press Identification
  • Leak Path Feature

Push & Stay

Press copper fittings up to DN50 are equipped with the unique ‘Push & Stay’ feature. Utilising strict process control, the tightest of manufacturing tolerances and the most accurate production technology, KemPress fittings have been designed to ensure the fitting is tight enough to stay on the tube prior to pressing. Such a feature is symbolic of the high quality manufacturing and quality control processes employed during manufacture. KemPress “Push & Stay” has been designed to minimise risk during the installation process and make KemPress fittings easier to install with the following benefits:

  • Fitting is tight enough to complete rough in before pressing
  • Fitting won’t fall off when preparing for vertical installations
  • Ensures plumber has right design & tube placement prior to pressing
  • Minimises risk of fitting slipping and minimum tube insertion depth not met

Bluetooth Equipped KemPress Tools

KemPress KPS2 and KPL3 press tools are equipped with smart Bluetooth technology so you can stay fully connected with your job site and installation performance. The innovative technology combined with the Novocheck App means you can manage the job straight from your smart phone or tablet. The ability to monitor and maintain your tool performance as well as installation performance reduces installation risk and increases the quality of your installations. Pre-start tool checks will ensure your tools are ready to work, service logs will mean you can see when your tool needs its next service and generation of site reports means you can detect any unpressed fittings by comparing the number of completed presses to those required on each section of work.

Download the NovoCheck App from the App Store or Google Play and connect with your tool today.

Visual Press Identification

Once pressed, KemPress will not leak. The KemPress system has been designed to make it very obvious to detect unpressed fittings prior to commissioning of the system. Pressed and unpressed fittings are clearly distinguished on a visual inspection with clear indentation marks present on the fitting once a fitting has been pressed. In addition, on DN65-100 fittings also inspect the fitting for the presence of a KemPress label that is to be removed after pressing to indicate the fittings has been pressed.

Unpressed fitting – smooth with no indents

Pressed fitting – indents on the fitting

Unpressed fitting – small gap between fitting and tube

Pressed fitting – no gap between fitting and tube

For DN65-100 fittings, remove the KemPress® label to indicate the completion of the press.

Leak Path Feature

When un-pressed, all KemPress fittings are designed with a feature that will allow a small amount of water, or gas, to escape from the un-pressed joint. This is known as a ‘Leak Path’. This feature may take the form of either a specially engineered section of the sealing ring, or tolerances within the fitting itself. The ‘Leak Path’ is designed to work at low pressures, i.e. at 100KPa or less. For more information on the Leak Path feature and testing guidelines, download the KemPress European Standard EN 1254 Design & Installation Guide.

KemPress fittings for EN 1057 copper tube are available for Water applications. Inside each fitting is a sealing element called an Elastomeric O-ring. Water applications use an EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) O-ring sealing element. This O-ring is suitable for standard water applications designated below. It can be used for domestic solar hot water applications. For industrial solar or hot water temperatures exceeding 120°C, the HT fitting should be used.

KemPress Water fittings are not suitable for LPG Gas, Medical Gas, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning applications, Acetylene, Urea Solution, Methanol, Glycerin Triacetate, Coolant Inhibitor, Sodium Hydroxide or Ammoniac-gaseous.

For further information regarding suitability of KemPress fittings for applications, refer to the O-ring Specification table in the KemPress Design & Installation Guide available on this website or contact MM Kembla customer service.

Water

Water applications use an EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) O-ring sealing element. This O-ring is suitable for standard water applications designated below. It can be used for domestic solar hot water applications. For industrial solar or hot water temperatures exceeding 120°C, the HT fitting should be used.

Gas

Gas applications use a HNBR (Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) O-ring sealing element. HNBR has been used for decades in automotive and industrial applications. It is designed for gas, oil and chemical resistance. It is not suitable for drinking water. Gas fittings have a yellow O-ring and are clearly marked with a distinctive yellow colour and the word GAS.

High Temperature (HT)

High temperature applications use an FKM (fluorocarbon) O-ring sealing element. This O-ring is suitable for domestic or industrial solar hot water applications or applications where hot water temperatures exceed 120°C (up to 200°C), often at the collector. HT fittings have a red O-ring and arec learly marked with a distinctive red colour and the word HT.

The objective of the press process is to deliver a permanent connection while achieving the required pull out strength according to AS3688. The KemPress process presses the lip of the fitting and then compresses the O-ring at the same time. KemPress fittings are designed to deliver minimal deformation to the internal shape of the tube they are connecting, reducing turbulence in the flow of the fluid. The connection provides a rigid coupling with excellent resistance to torsional forces, particularly beneficial when connection mechanical threaded connections.

  • Fast & easy to use – Considerably faster than convention brazing
  • No need to drain water out of the system
  • Flame free connection – no hot works permit required
  • High quality fittings manufactured and quality controlled
  • Push & Stay feature – fittings tight enough to complete rough in before securing placement by pressing and minimises fitting slipping from required insertion depth.
  • Leak Path feature – identifies un-pressed fittings when tested at low pressures
  • WRAS Certified (Licence no.’s 19101707 & 1901708)
  • 25 Year Warranty

25 Years

MM Kembla warrants that if any installation using KemPress fittings becomes defective or fails and MM Kembla is notified of the details and is satisfied that the defect or failure was a result of a manufacturing defect and not the result of faulty specification, installation or incompatible environment, MM Kembla will replace or repair the defective goods and make good the installation.
